WING 01 / ADMISSION PERMITTED
The Open Wing
Properly indexed, formally accessible, and almost certainly larger on the inside. Enquiries are welcomed. Resolution is unlikely.
ENTER THE OPEN REGISTRY ROBOTS.TXT / ALLOWEDUpdated every 15 seconds. Requests are not unique visitors; depth describes a signed room address, not a proven route.
THE NEVER ENDING DIRECTORY // AN EXPERIMENT IN AUTOMATED CURIOSITY
There is something further in.
AN INTERNET ART PROJECT & CRAWLER HONEYPOT
An impossible institution made of fictional records and endless referrals. We invite automated visitors to explore one wing, ask them to avoid the other, and quietly observe where their requests lead.
One wing is open to crawlers. One has a sign on its door. The rooms behind them are the same.
I. WHAT IS COMEINSIDE?
Part internet art, part crawler honeypot. A harmless place to ask a question: when an automated visitor finds a door that never leads out, how long does it keep looking?
Search engines and other automated visitors traverse links all day. Most of that activity is invisible to the people whose websites they visit. Comeinside makes it visible, using an entirely synthetic building full of plausible-looking offices, records and unanswered questions.
Every room offers four more passages and additional paperwork. There is no final office, no prize and no hidden data. The names, departments and case files are fictional. The HTTP requests we record are real.
Humans are welcome to look around, too. The public Observatory shows what the recorder has actually seen rather than inventing visitors to fill the empty corridors.
II. THE ENTRANCE REGISTER
The two wings contain the same generated maze. The difference is a published instruction to crawlers, not a locked door: one is allowed by robots.txt, the other disallowed.

The register advises automated visitors not to enter. Those who disregard the notice find the very same offices, documents and doors.

A room leads to documents, contradictory evidence and more rooms. This is an illustrative fictional case from the maze, not a recorded visitor event.
OFFICE OF STRUCTURAL RECORDS
The original plan records a staircase between Floors 26 and 27.
An inspection report describes the location as a solid wall.
How was a staircase maintained if its construction cannot be established?
CONSULT THE FULL FICTIONAL CASE FILEIV. NOTES ON THE EXPERIMENT
We publish the rules, generate the rooms, record what was requested and keep the difference between an observation and a guess visible.
robots.txt asks crawlers not to enter the Forbidden Wing. It does not prevent entry. The Open Wing is permitted.
Each room is reconstructed from a signed address, with four further passages, supporting documents and recurring fictional investigations.
We record requests, signed room depth and document activity. Internal tests are excluded from public totals; a request is not a unique person.
Crawler names are initially inferred from User-Agent claims. The observatory marks them unverified. Even a deep link does not prove every step of a journey.
Nothing valuable is hidden here. Nothing is exploited or attacked. No real administrative directories, backups or credentials sit behind the fictional doors. The maze's responses are deterministic; adaptive choices may be part of a later experiment, but are not active in this version.
V. THE OBSERVATORY
Every request is another line in the record. We watch who ventures further in, which wing they choose, and what remains unresolved.
